On the 8th of Dhul Hijja, 32 days before Ashura, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The pilgrims were gathered, prepared to listen to the rituals. Imam Hussain was prepared for the possibility of assassination by the army of Yazid Ibn Muaweya, he therefore decided to change his intention from Hajj to Umrah. He gave his final sermon before leaving Mecca. After the sermon, he asked the people to join him in his journey to martyrdom on the path to stand against tyranny, oppression and injustice.
Imam Hussain (AS) was asked why he was leaving Mecca, Imam Hussain (AS) responded by saying that he did not want to die in the holy land of Mecca causing bloodshed in the holy land. On the same day (8th Dhul Hijja in Al-Sifah) Imam Hussain (AS) crossed paths with Al Farazdeq, the Imam asked him “how are the people of Kufa?”, Al Farazdeq replied “Their hearts are with you but their swords are against you”.
